Het echte leven is a dutch drama. 

The young director Martin makes a feature film in which he plays the leading role together with his girlfriend Simone. In this film she starts a relationship with another man as a love test. However, it all goes wrong when Martin cast an actor named Dirk, a crew member of the film without acting experience. Martin is happy with the choice of an amateur. Until Simone falls in love with Dirk. That also benefits the film. By the time Simone has to choose in the film between her lovers, reality and fiction can no longer be separated. Only Simone still knows what she is doing. Both men have become entangled in their self-created fantasy in this romantic feature film in which the real and the film world seamlessly overlap.
